Background. In our last lesson we showed the fall of the king of the north in the French Revolution. We concluded that the king of the north would rise and fall again at the end of time. The same prophecy that chronicles the first fall can be reused to chronicle the final fall. In this lesson we show the events of the final fall of the king of the north, Babylon the Great.
The Origin Of The King Of The North
The King of the North is mentioned in Daniel 11. He is depicted as a power who begins during the Greek empire and lives until the end. As you will see, the role of the King of the north changes from one power to another as one power takes over the next.
The northern direction refers to the physical direction of this power in relation to Israel when it first appeared. There were several powers who became the king of the North:
- Babylon. Ancient Babylon and even Assyria are the original kings of the north. Whover controls them may be the new king of the north,
- Seleucid Empire. They took control after the death of Alexander the Great.
Daniel describes this division of the kingdom after the death of Alexander among those who were not his descendants.
"And a mighty king will arise, and he will rule with great authority and do as he pleases. "But as soon as he has arisen, his kingdom will be broken up and parceled out toward the four points of the compass, though not to his own descendants, nor according to his authority which he wielded, for his sovereignty will be uprooted and given to others besides them. (Daniel 11: 3-4)
The dominant division became the next king of the north. - Rome. It conquered the Seleucid and Egyptian empires and became the new power.
- Papacy. It was given the power over the western region by Justinian.
- Papacy and the United States. The two beasts of Revelation 13 who control the world at the end. Through the occupation and control of Iraq by the United States and the control of the European Union by the papacy, we have these two powers finally fulfilling the last stages of their role as the King of the North.
The Origin Of The King Of The South
- Egypt. They were the southern super power until Babylon defeated them. This began a decline which was completed by the Romans. Since then they have never been a super power and will never be according to scripture. Whoever controls Egypt may be the king of the south.
- Ptolemaic. One Greek division replaced the Egyptian dynasty and started their own royal dynasty.
- Ottoman. This Muslim caliphate once occupied both the north and south. Islam began in the south.
- France. At the fall of the Papacy they briefly took over Egypt.
- Islam. Extremists may soon be in a position to unite these nations against Israel.
The Three Sons Of Noah
The rivalries mirror the distribution of the sons of Noah. Shem and the descendants of Israel are in the middle. The sons of Japheth are the nation in the north and the sons of Ham live in the south.
So we conclude from the history of the nations north and south of Israel (Jerusalem), particularly Babylon and Egypt, that the title of "king of the north" or "king of the south" belongs to the power that is in control of these regions at the time the prophecy is being fulfilled.
After the early death of Alexander the Great without an heir, the Greek empire was divided among his four generals. After a while, the empire was reduced to a northern and southern kingdom. These are the kings that are the subject of the prophecy of Daniel 11.
- King Of The North. The Seleucid empire in the east conquered the western and northern empires and started the dynasty in the north. They took Asia Minor and Turkey from Lysimachus and Greece from Cassander.
- King Of The South. In the south, the Greeks started a new dynasty of kings (Ptolemies) in Egypt. They came to an end when Augustus Caesar defeated Cleopatra and Mark Anthony in the battle of Actium in 31 BC.

In the most global interpretation both falls of the Papacy began with an American Revolution. France got into debt because it was assisting the Americans in their revolution against their mutual arch enemies, the British. The mounting debt which coincided with a series of unfortunate climate disasters led to famine and inflation and the revolt of the peasants and caused the French Revolution.
The Louisiana Purchase. The need for cash even caused them to sell 530 million acres in 1803 for $15 million. The sale of this entire region doubled the United States territory overnight. These actions led to the growth of the final king of the north, the United States of America.
- A False Ecumenical Union (Verse 34). The persecuted Protestant church will again fall victim to a false union after they are helped. Revelation 13 describes the beast following the church to the New World. It corrupts the government and begins a persecution there again.
Hypocrisy. ... they will fall by sword and by flame and by captivity and by plunder many days. Now when they fall they will be granted a little help, and many will join with them in hypocrisy. (Daniel 11: 33-34)
The first help came with the opening of the new world to the pilgrims. Many fled the religious persecutions in old Europe and came to the United States. Here we see that after they receive this help, they will form a union that is based on hypocrisy. In fact, both the Protestant Church and the United States will unite with the Catholic church.
But the ultimate goal of the church will be to dominate all of them. The basis of their union is deceptive and hypocritical.A Warning!!! Avoid the "free" money from the faith-based initiative. Do not bend rules to find legal ways to get these funds. So close to the end, these devices are traps that will ensnare us.
In May 2005, the Christian Churches Together, a union of all branches of the Christian church will officially form for the first time. On November 17, 2004 they announced their intention. They had been meeting since September 2001. They have united based on common points of doctrine and a common interest in influencing the political process. For the last 25 years they have really been acting together in secret, under separate organizations with the Catholic church encouraging and sponsoring much of this "Protestant" political activity. Now they are open. Sunday laws are coming. - The Sixth Head Emerges: Above All Gods (Verse 37-38). He will show no regard for the gods of his fathers or for the desire of women, nor will he show regard for any other god; for he will magnify himself above them all. (Daniel 11: 37-38)
In context, this verse lists all the gods that this power claims to be equal to or superior.- His God. He sets himself above the god that he has been taught to respect as a child.
Atheism This section may be capturing the phase of the papacy during the takeover of communism, secularism and atheism. The sins of the church are reflected in the sins of the state. Neither recognizes God as supreme because they both claim equality with God. - The LORD God of Israel. This interpretation could have meanings that point to Israel. Since all other items in the list are gods, then this phrase, "desire of women", must also refer to a god and not celibacy or homosexuality.
- Messiah (The Desire of Women). He was the desire of every Jewish woman who wanted to be His mother.
- YHWH (The Desirable Women). Israel is the desirable woman whose God is YHWH. This is an alternate translation.
- The Husband (Bridegroom). He is the desire of the church, His wife who wants His rule. A prophecy was made to Eve in this curse about the bride of Christ who is in childbirth.
To the woman He said, "I will greatly multiply your pain in childbirth, in pain you will bring forth children; yet your desire will be for your husband and he will rule over you". (Genesis 3: 16)
The Messiah is the Husband of the church and her desire. She longs for His rule as she suffers the birth pains of the final days (Revelation 19: 7, 15; Matthew 24: 8).
Immorality is the Result. Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. (Romans 1: 24-25) - False Gods. He does not regard any other god. This is the rise of atheism.
- Foreign God of Strength (Babylon the Great). This could be the image to the beast that is set up at the end of time that it forces the world to worship. (Revelation 13: 14-15) This is the god of fortresses or strength. It describes the union between the United States and the Catholic Church known as Babylon the Great. Ancient Babylon was the original "God of strength" (Habakkuk 1: 11). Since it fell so long ago it is a god that neither we nor our parents knew. This also fits perfectly with identifying the last power as Babylon revived.
New Gods. They made Him jealous with strange gods. With abominations they provoked Him to anger. They sacrificed to demons that were not God. To gods whom they have not known, New gods who came lately, whom your fathers did not dread. (Deuteronomy 32: 16-17).
I see such powerful movements as the church of scientology and the Unification church as new gods.
- His God. He sets himself above the god that he has been taught to respect as a child.
- A God of Fortresses (Strength) (Verse 38). But instead he will honor a god of fortresses, a god whom his father did not know; he will honor him with gold, silver, costly stones and treasures. (Daniel 11: 38)
The God of strength is a reliance on military force to gain religious goals.
A God of Strength. They mock at kings and rulers are a laughing matter to them. They laugh at every fortress and heap up rubble to capture it. Then they will sweep through like the wind and pass on. But they will be held guilty, they whose strength is their god. (Habakkuk 1: 10-11)
They will use the power of the governments to accomplish their goals. They will use bribes and economic incentives to get cooperation.
So the economic issues at the end of time will involve nations as well as individuals. While the church sends an interdict against nations, the military arm of Babylon the Great sends economic sanctions. The church also used economic incentives to lure the faithful to go to war against infidels. Besides the guarantee of avoiding purgatory, they were rewarded with the property stolen from their victims. Will there be an economic alliance between the United States and the Catholic church?A God of Fortresses Habakkuk 1: 11 describes Babylon as those whose "Strength is their God".
Babylon the Great will also rely on its military strength and its economic power. - Carving Up Land for Peace (verses 39). In October 1991 at the Madrid peace conference, they discussed giving up territory for peace. Israel unilaterally withdrew from Gaza in August 2005.
» Carving Up the World for Profit. If we look at how this prophecy was fulfilled in 1345 when the global economy collapsed because of the monopolies and speculation of the merchants of Venice who formed a strategic union with the Mongols, we might have a blueprint for what will happen in the end that also causes the global financial collapse in Revelation 18. They divided the world between the eastern and western empires and set monetary policies that drove the world bankrupt while they profited. A modern day equivalent would be a conspiracy between the United States or the European Union and China. China now holds $800 billion in United States debt, they may have some financial clout with the west in creating spheres of economic influence. - The Seventh Head Emerges: The War Against Terrorism in Palestine (verses 40-45).
The events in Iraq also fulfill the prophecy as a part of the second fall. This applies since the United States has become Babylon the Great, the King of the North and if the whole Muslim region has become the king of the South. From the prophecy of the Great Tree in Daniel 4, Babylon officially returned in 1981.- The King of the South: Militant Islamic Forces. At the end time the king of the South will collide with him ... (Daniel 11: 40)
Just as the French were influenced by Egyptian culture and became the king of the south, Osama bin Laden became influenced by Egyptian militants and ideas as he formed his terror network. Al-Qaeda attacked the United States on September 11, 2001. It could even be argued that several previous events are a part of this war. The attempted assassination of Pope John Paul II on May 13 by the Muslim terrorist Mehmet Ali Agca. The first suicide bombing in the world on April 18, 1983 at the United States embassy in Lebanon that killed 63 and the suicide bombing on the United States marine barracks in Lebanon that killed 241, are part of this attack. It occurred within the time we officially became Babylon the Great, the king of the north.
» The Men of the South (Non-Aligned Nations).
In a fire and brimstone speech to the United Nations on September 20, 2006 Hugo Chavez, the president of Venezuela called George Bush the Devil and a "global dictator", and saying that the building "stinks of sulfur". He announced a new alliance of the "men and women of the south" against the United States, the protector of Israel and the force that is trying to dominate the world. This alliance includes Iran, North Korea, Cuba and the enemies of the United States.... Yes, you can call us extremists, but we are rising up against the empire, against the model of domination. ... and we have now launched, once again, the group of the nonaligned with new momentum ... ... So, my dear colleagues, Madam President, a new, strong movement has been born, a movement of the south. We are men and women of the south.
- The King of the North: The United States. ... and the king of the North will storm against him with chariots, with horsemen and with many ships; and he will enter countries, overflow them and pass through. (Daniel 11: 40)
The United States responded with war in Afghanistan (7 October 2001) and then Iraq (19 March 2003). The war involved the navy and the cavalry (horse men) in the rough terrain of Afghanistan. - Jordan Escapes. ... but these will be rescued out of his hand: Edom, Moab and the foremost of the sons of Ammon. (Daniel 11: 41)
Jordan is an ally of the United States. The country of Jordan will escape damage or direct involvement. It will not be attacked by the king of the north. In the worst case, if Jordan is taken, it will be freed or rescued. - Egypt Will not Escape. "Then he will stretch out his hand against other countries, and the land of Egypt will not escape. (Daniel 11: 42)
In the first fall, Egypt suffered under the first king of the South - France. Egypt will not escape again in the second fall. But who will attack? The king of the north might do it, since Egypt is also a source of terrorist recruits and camps. But Al-Qaeda might also attack because Egypt helps the United States in the war on terror. This organization is known for punishing Islamic governments that assist the United States. Egypt is particularly named as a place that is willing to take and torture Islamic prisoners at the request of the United States. It is a process called extreme rendition or rendering. It is only a matter of time before Al-Qaeda attacks Egypt.
» October 7, 2004. Taba, Egypt. Truck bomb kills 31.
» July 22, 2005. Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. Bomb kills over 88 and wounds over 200. Failed bombing at the pyramids on July 23.
» Civil War. Isaiah 19 seems to suggest that there will be civil war in Egypt.
» January Revolutions. During the 18 days between 25 January and 12 February 2011, the peaceful revolt of the people led o the resignation of president Hosni Mubarak who has ruled for 30 years since the assassination of Anwar Sadat. During the uprising, over 300 were killed and thousands were wounded and the treasures of Egypt were looted.
All across the former French colonies of the Middle East and North Africa the people are in revolt. It started with Tunisia and spread to Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Yemen, Algeria, Bahrain and Libya. In the land of Cush, Christian Southern Sudan voted to separate from Muslim northern Sudan. - Treasures of Egypt. "Then he will stretch out his hand against other countries, and the land of Egypt will not escape. "But he will gain control over the hidden treasures of gold and silver and over all the precious things of Egypt. (Daniel 11: 42-43)
If the whole Muslim world is the king of the south, then the looted treasures of Baghdad are a part of the treasures mentioned in prophecy. In the first fall, it was the king of the south who looted the treasures. The museums of Baghdad were looted by the Muslims, not the United States.
However, we control the oil and we are looting their treasures.
When we first gained control of the country we refused to stop the looting of the museums. And, United States soldiers are selling the treasures taken from Saddam's palace on eBay. $8.8 billion dollars of Iraq money is missing and observers report tankers leaving the ports with unmetered oil. A United States judge refused to consider criminal charges in connection with this money. He told the litigants to pursue a civil case.
We could possibly see a looting of the antiquities of the real Egypt. Egypt produces a lot of Al-Qaeda terrorists and we could see a revolution there.
» January 2011 (Revolutions). This prediction came through as the people revolted and the president resigned leaving the military in charge and the treasures were looted during the uprising. There is real fear that the Muslim Brotherhood will take over after elections are held later this year. - Libya Surrenders. ... and Libyans and Ethiopians will follow at his heels. (Daniel 11: 43)
Libya and Ethiopia will obey this power.
We saw a more complete fulfillment in the second fall when Libya surrendered to the United States.
» No-Fly Zone (1991-2003). Between the first and second Gulf war a no-fly zone and sanctions were imposed on Libya.
» December 19, 2003. Libya abandons their weapons of mass destruction programs and equipment.
» June 28, 2004. After 24 years, the United States resumes diplomatic relations with Libya.
» September 20, 2004. United States lifts all economic sanctions.
» October 11, 2004. The European Union ends eleven years of economic sanctions.
» March 19, 2011. Caught in the middle of an Islamic revolution which has affected all Muslim countries from North Africa, Middle East, Arabian Peninsula to Persia, Libya brutally supresses the uprising as civil war broke out. In March, 112 to 124 Tomahawk cruise missiles were launched to establish a no-fly zone ordered by the United Nations to stop Ghadaffi from killing his people. The NATO mission ended on October 22 after Ghadaffi was dragged from a drainage pipe and shot to death on October 20 by his own golden gun when a drone air strike and French jets forced him to abandon his convoy fleeing from Sirte, ending 42 years of dictatorship and terrorism.
» Ancient Libya. The ancient Greeks and Romans referred to the region of North Africa west of Egypt as Libya. Perhaps the ancients designated the entire region by this name. So, at a minimum, the prophecy refers to Libya but might include the nations of Tunisia and Algeria.
» 2011 Islamic Uprising. From December 2010 to 2011, an uprising which started in Tunisia has spread across all of north Africa and has caused the downfall of leaders in Tunisia, Egypt and Yemen by March. Iran has taken credit for this spontaneous set of events and see it as a sign of the chaos that will spread across the Middle East before the Madhi appears to usher in an Islamic caliphate across the world. They must be preparing for war with Israel because this is an important event in their final war. - Ethiopia Surrenders. The ancient region included Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti, Somalia and Sudan. Sudan may have been part of Nubia and Ethiopia. Activities in this region have included United States troops occupying Somalia from 1992-1994, where American soldiers were lost in Mogadishu. In 2005, the United Nations are back again, controlling refugees from the genocide in Somalia. The Sunni Muslims are enslaving Christians and killing "black" Muslims in Sudan. This region is also under our control.
So we should see the countries that occupy the former territory of Ethiopia surrender like Libya.
» Ethiopia and Somalia. On December 23, 2006 Ethiopian troops, trained by the United States attacked the Al-Qaeda Islamic forces in Somalia. The majority Christian Ethopia is now at war with the majority Muslim Somalia with the support of the USA. The United States gun ships attacked on 8 January 2007. - Other Countries Affected. ... and he will enter countries, overflow them and pass through. "He will also enter the Beautiful Land, and many countries will fall, but these will be rescued out of his hand: Edom, Moab and the foremost of the sons of Ammon. "Then he will stretch out his hand against other countries, and the land of Egypt will not escape. (Daniel 11: 40-42)
Many developments have been credited to the war on terror.
» Syria Falls On April 26, 2005, the Syrian troops withdrew from Lebanon after 29 years of occupation.
» Lebanon. Holds democratic elections and comes under United States influence. The ancient cities of Tyre and Sidon are in this region and Northern Israel. Look at an ancient prophecy about the fall of ancient Babylon that seems to be a parallel of this section of Daniel 11. The modern countries in this ancient region of Edom, Moab, Ammon, Tyre and Sidon and Israel are Jordan, Lebanon and Israel.- Jordan, Lebanon and Israel. Now I have given all these lands into the hands of Nebuchadnezzar King of Babylon, My servant, and I have given him also the wild animals of the field to serve him. All the nations shall serve him and his son and his grandson until the time of his own land comes, then many nations and great kings will make him their servant. Jeremiah 27: 6-7
» Iran. They are under threat to give up nuclear programs.
» Pakistan. They are supposed to be an ally against the war on terror. But the shaky alliance seems to be supported by one man who was later thrown out. Schools in Pakistan are training potential Al-Qaida members. Osama bin Laden was found and killed living in Abbottabad near a military school.
» The Servant of Nations. The United States will decline and become the servant of nations. How could we be the final world empire and still be subject to others? You can see it happening right now. Our borders are being raided by illegal aliens, the standard of living is decreasing, we are in debt to China who is gearing up to be the next super power. Russia has energy reserves that might allow it to keep its super power status. We have nothing but our influence, army and the church. We are on the verge of collapse.
- The King of the South: Militant Islamic Forces. At the end time the king of the South will collide with him ... (Daniel 11: 40)
The End of Papal Rule and the War in Palestine (Verses 44-45).
"But rumors from the East and from the North will disturb him, and he will go out with great wrath to destroy and annihilate many. "He will pitch the tents of his royal pavilion between the seas and the beautiful Holy Mountain; yet he will come to his end, and no one will help him. (Daniel 11: 44-45)
"Rumors from the East and North". It describes a turn of events that will lead to their destruction. Iran is north and east of Iraq and Israel and the pattern of events seem to indicate a confrontation between the kings of Babylon and Persia. We will describe the possible final events that will cause the fall of both the religious and military powers that form Babylon the great. But first we will look at an ancient king of the north who fell in the same manner.
Rumors from Ancient Assyria. Sennacherib tried to defeat Judah the same way that he had defeated the ten northern tribes in Israel seven years earlier. This time God defended Israel. So the episode becomes another model of the war tactics of God at the end of time.
God made Sennacherib paranoid. He also heard "rumors from the north". In this case, Assyria was north of Israel and the rumors happened to be coming from his own country as he was trying to attack Israel.
A Rumor. Behold I will put a spirit in him so that he will hear a rumor and return to his own land. And I will make him fall by the sword of his own hand. (2 Kings 19: 7 and Isaiah 37: 7)
That night the angel of the Lord killed 185,000 Assyrian soldiers, ending the siege and Sennacherib returned home and was murdered by his sons with a sword as he was worshipping his god.
So perhaps rumors will also come from either Iran or North America, our own land, that causes fury. This points to another major terrorist attack or great threat. The most perfect confluence of political events are threats in America which we can blame on Iran and Syria. It could even be manufactured evidence to produce fear that gives public support for attacking Iran. The parallel spiritual events are rumors of lack of support by the people of God which will lead to charges of treason.

Just as Napoleon had an inexplicable urge to conquer Egypt, in all these disasters it was God who put it in their hearts to make the final actions that would cause their fall. France fell because of internal struggles and uncontrolled ambition and pride. Sennacherib fell because of internal discord and mutiny in the same way Babylon will fall by internal struggles.
And the ten horns which you saw, and the beast, these will hate the harlot and will make her desolate and naked, and will eat her flesh and will burn her up with fire. For God has put it in their hearts to execute His purpose by having a common purpose, and by giving their kingdom to the beast, until the words of God will be fulfilled. (Revelation 17: 16-17)
- Religious Fall. Messages about the coming of God will disturb him. It is God who comes from the east and the north. They should be surprised at how well their activities are being portrayed in prophecy. At some level, this knowledge must frighten them, especially when events are not working out according to their world view. Therefore, the information about the success of the three angels' message and the spread of the gospel will disturb them.
In the prophecy of the twelve tribes we explain the significance of the four directions. As we look at the spiritual fulfillment we must first look at Satan's point of view. He uses these developments as clues to how much time he has remaining. As the end approaches his activities get more desperate and we can see the response and the results in the activities of his human agents. So as Satan goes off in fury like a roaring lion to devour and destroy the earth, the king of the north goes out in fury to destroy his rivals.- East. This is evidence and information about the Second Coming.
- North. This is the loud stampede of the people fleeing from Babylon in the north as they respond to the message of the Second Coming and the call to come out of Babylon.
» Armageddon (South West). The message to Naphtali was also to take possession of the south west. It is in this place and context that the preparations for Armageddon begin. Therefore the enemy goes out with fury to destroy many of the saints. - Military Fall. There is probably trouble from Pakistan and Iran. These have nuclear weapons capability and it seems to be the war cry that drives the United States nuts. Syria and Iran indicated in February 2005 that they have formed an alliance to support each other from the growing threat of the United States. Iran is developing nuclear capability. They say for energy, we say for weapons. Iran is north and east of Iraq. Syria is north.
However, the enlargement of prophecy states that the European alliance with Babylon the Great will crumble. Therefore, the ultimate rumors from the north could include indications that the European allies are breaking away. Rumors from the east could be news about a final push by Al-Qaeda. Maybe they have acquired weapons of mass destruction from Pakistan and Iran.
If we use the example of Sennacherib and take the most global view of the identity of Babylon, the North and East could be in relation to rumors from the United States not Iraq. Revelation 17: 16-17 is not a pretty picture for both the church and the United States.
What starts as a local problem with Iran escalates to a global problem from the mutiny of its allies. Between these two phases is the persecution of the church.
"A Tabernacle Between the Seas and the Beautiful Holy Mountain".
A tabernacle is a holy structure with three sides. The temporary three sided shelter that the people build during the feast of tabernacles represents living with God in His royal house. So a tabernacle is a structure built for a religious purpose.
Where is the possible location of this tabernacle? A "sea" in prophecy represents people. The beautiful Holy Mountain is a reference to the throne of God and Jerusalem where the Most Holy Place in the sanctuary is located.
This prophecy indicates that the enemy of God will put a religious system as an obstacle between God and the people. In the end there will probably be a physical structure that symbolizes this apostasy.
- Holy Place. The laver is called the bronze sea and the Most Holy place is the holy mountain. The place in between is the Holy Place. Right now, this is the church.
- Temple. Jerusalem is the beautiful Holy Mountain. The prophecy references "the seas", plural not one sea. This is probably the Dead sea and the Mediterranean Sea. So, the power will physically place itself in Israel between the seas and the holy mountain. This is any area between Jerusalem and the seas.

TabernacleSea Babylon Restored At least eight different prophecies talk about some aspect of this event.
Zechariah 5 closely parallels this prophecy. It tells of a wicked woman, under judgment, who is freed and set up in the Land of Shinar as an object of worship in a temple built for her. - The Church. The seas are the people and the mountain is the throne of God in Heaven. So, this power shall place itself as an intermediary between God and His people. This is a repetition of the warning in Daniel 8 and Revelation 13. According to Daniel, the little horn does the following.
It even magnified itself to be equal with the Commander of the host; and it removed the regular sacrifice from Him, and the place of His sanctuary was thrown down. (Daniel 8: 11)
When this power is revived it repeats its activities. It replaces the tabernacle of God with its own corruption.
He exercises all the authority of the first beast in his presence. And he makes the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast whose fatal wound was healed.
... telling those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast who had the wound of the sword and has come to life. (Revelation 13: 12,14)
This "making of the image" and "setting up a tabernacle" in verse 45 is probably the same construction activity. - The Holy Land. Any presence in the Holy Land will fulfill this prophecy and a parallel prophecy in Zechariah 5. We have military bases and the most expensive embassy in Iraq and there are reports that we have a military base in Israel on the Dead Sea as of August 31, 2005.
Both Places. Babylon the Great, the United States and the church, sets up a government in Iraq and Israel.- Iraq. The phrase "between the seas" could also be translated "between the rivers". This is Mesopotamia, "the land between the rivers". These are the Tigris and Euphrates in Iraq. It could also refer to Babylon the Great (United States and the church) at the end of time. Therefore the embassies and diplomatic stations are just physical signs of the global reality.
- Jerusalem. The beautiful holy mountain is in Jerusalem.
- Military Bases and Embassies. If verse 38 can condemn a reliance on military presence as a "god of forces", then the temple of this type of god can be a military base.
"Set Up His Tabernacle".
On every level, global and local, this is a prophecy about a power that comes between God and His people. The actual fulfillment will manifest all these dimensions.
A base or official presence with power will be moved to the region. At the same time, the church is taking control of the state. Since 1991 we have had a military presence in Iraq because of a war. The military bases that were established in Saudi Arabia and other Arab states prior to this were as a result of economic agreements. Since Babylon the Great is a combination of two powers, these are the possibilities. They are developing simultaneously.
- Military Tabernacle. The final power obtains the use of military resources.
» A Military Embargo. After the first Gulf war, we maintained virtual control of Iraq through economic sanctions and by launching fighter planes from the bases that we already controlled in neighboring countries. After 2003, we maintained physical control.
» A Military Presence. On March 1, 2005 in a speech by the Secretary of State, she indicated that the general appointed a month earlier to monitor peace in the middle east would be "relocated to the region". It is a development to watch. We will essentially switch our focus from Europe to the Middle East. In July we announced that 50,000 soldiers will leave Europe. If we establish a system like our presence in Europe since World War 2, it is a fulfillment.
Fulfilled! In his final state of the union address on 29 January 2008, George Bush indicated that we will maintain a "protective Overwatch" mission in Iraq, similar to our presence in South Korea and Germany that could last a hundred years. He has somehow committed this country and its resources to protect Iraq against "foreign and domestic enemies" without the approval of congress that is required.
» A Military Presence in Israel. Conspiracy theorists report that a base is being built by the United States for Israel near Tel Aviv as a military storage facility. It will be completed August 31, 2005. Other myth debunkers claim it is temporary housing for the people being removed from Gaza. Some claim that it is a water project. But the construction company that received the contract reports the following information:Nachchonim Project. Setting up, the most advanced dry storage base in the world for the armed division of the army. A bid that three different Consortiums competed for. Baran won this bid, together with the Aronson Company and ABB SUSA Company at a cost of $125 million.
If it is a base or a military storage facility, it fulfills prophecy. Especially since it occurs during the war in the Holy Land. At the end of July 2005, Uzbekistan asked the United States to leave the Khanabad air base. All the military assets in Muslim countries can become a liability. So the safest place for the American army in the Middle East is Israel. This country would be the most logical location for the general who is being relocated to the region. Unfortunately, this will create the magnet conditions described in Zechariah 12 and in the Muslim prophecies and Israel will be desolated when the Jihad is attracted to it. In both these prophecies, the world marches towards Israel and surrounds the country.

Look, I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that causes reeling to all peoples around; and when the siege is against Jerusalem it will also be against Judah. It will come about in that day that I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples; all who lift it will be severely injured. And all the nations of the earth will be gathered against it. ... And in that day I will set out to destroy all the nations that come against Israel. (Zechariah 12: 2-3, 9)
The irony of all of this is that in trying to force a fulfillment of their beliefs about being the good guys of prophecy, they have to practice injustice and violence, and so they are fulfilling the real prophecies as the bad guys. It is fascinating to watch these developments.
» Shia Muslim Prophecy. For seven years Mahdi will lead Muslims in victory over the Antichrist before the return of Isa (Jesus). Madhi will gather a great army in Afghanistan (Khurâsân) to fight the infidel Christians and march on Jerusalem.
» Sunni Muslim Prophecy. This is taught in schools supported by Saudia Arabia.
"the hour of judgment will not come until the Muslims fight the Jews and kill them".
» Christian Prophecy. Some Christians believe that they cannot be secretly raptured until certain conditions appear in Jerusalem. The Antichrist will be in Jerusalem, the temple will be rebuilt and Israel will be at war in Armageddon. So instead of working for peace, they seem to be working towards making these conditions occur, even if it means supporting injustice and torture and adjusting their prophecies to fit the events.- Armageddon. They will be raptured before or during Armageddon, which they define as a world war in the Middle East. Russia and China are supposed to start this war. Events are not going as predicted, so they seem to be trying to drag Russia into the fray as an enemy.
- Russia and a New Cold War. Their original doomsday enemies were communist forces trying to impose Atheism on the world, now it is Muslims. Russia and China did not make war in the Middle East as they believed, so they are forcing Russia to take an aggressive stand to defend itself and play the role that they believe Russia has at the end of time.
While we were struggling in Iraq and Russia was a cooperative friend, the president seemed to go out of his way to make an enemy out of them. He treats Russia as the force of evil that he expects them to be at the end of time.
» Poland and the Czech Republic. Bush unilaterally broke the nuclear treaty and proposed plans in June 2007 to deploy an anti-missile base in Poland and a radar control center in the Czech Republic next to Russia "to protect Russia and Europe against Iran and North Korea". However, the Russians called their bluff and offered to use their existing systems next to Iran at the Gabala radar station in Baku, Azerbaijan with a range of 6,000 kilometres (3,700 miles). The Pentagon rejected it. What we plan to do is as provocative and similar to the Russian plans to put a missile in Cuba in 1962. We are making enemies out of friends and cornering them into alliances that fulfill the religious right's version of prophecy.
Agreements were signed with Poland in 20 August 2008. Ten missiles will be based 115 miles from the border of Russia. These missiles are over 1500 miles from Iran and about 4500 miles from North Korea. We armed Georgia and are trying to put Ukraine, Georgia and Chechnya in NATO. So the Russians are paranoid about activities on their border.
» Georgia. We may be arming Georgia because it is close to Iran. This way we have three options to attack the nuclear sites with bunker busting bombs, from Israel, Iraq and Georgia. We may even be shipping the weapons as humanitarian aid.
» Venezuela. By September 2008, Russia announced plans for joint military exercises. - Iran. They never had a role for Iran, but now Iran is supposed to start World War III or Armageddon with its nuclear weapons. And the president is stirring up animosity against Iran, just as he did with Iraq. This legitimately forces Iran to try to protect itself. Their paranoia is consistent with what they have seen us do to Iraq and their prophetic beliefs.
- United States. They never had a role for the USA, but now it is doing the work of God.
- Israel. Although they claim to be "supporters of Israel", they are not interested in converting the Jews to Christianity. Israel will be converted after they are gone. If Israel does not accept Christ they will go to hell. Their only interest is seeing the temple rebuilt, because those are the conditions under which they will be raptured.
» A Military Presence in Israel. Time Magazine reported that an American radar station in the Negev with a 1500 mile range will begin operations in November 2008. It is the first time in its sixty year history that a foreign nation will have a permanent military base on its soil. Jordan and Turkey had rejected this installation in their country after the Americans made a request. But the request supposedly came from the Israeli defense minister without consulting with anyone else or evaluating its impact. Israel has no control or rights over these facilities.
» A Diplomatic Presence in Israel. The 1995 Jerusalem Embassy Act of congress requires the United States to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem by the deadline on May 31, 1999. It also allows the president to postpone the move every six months.
» A Diplomatic Presence in Iraq. We have about four large permanent military bases and one huge embassy that has its own source of water and electricity. We have set up a tabernacle in the Garden of Eden on the banks of the Tigris river. - Religious Tabernacle. When Israel was formed in 1948, U.N. Resolution 181 (Part III) allowed Jerusalem to be administered as an international city for ten years by someone appointed by the United Nations.
In the Middle East peace talks, the pope has asked to rule the disputed territory of Jerusalem as the special governor according to this resolution. Yasser Arafat agreed to this plan in a February 2000 accord with the Vatican. During the Clinton administration, the Vatican made this request in return for their help in the negotiations.
With the death of Yasser Arafat in 2004, an obstruction to a Palestinian-Israeli peace treaty has been removed. Israel has agreed to withdraw from Gaza. The results will certainly fulfill prophecy if the church or the United States or the United Nations sets up a presence in Jerusalem as a result.
» European Union Membership (Modern Day Crusaders).
In January 2010 the Italians proposed a plan to make Israel a part of the European Union. This follows a trend of high profile papal representatives courting both Israel and the Palestinians possibly to set themselves up as peace makers. This would certainly fulfill this prophecy.The Embassy in Iraq Located in the Green Zone on 104 acres on the bank of the Tigris river at a cost of $750 million and counting, is the fortified, private city that is the United States embassy in Baghdad. It is more luxurious than any of Saddam's palaces. Locals call it George W's palace. It is designed to be self sufficient with it own utilities and will support a staff of 8000 and the thousands of soldiers needed to defend them. - Global Tabernacle. On a global scale, the efforts of the government to encourage the church to accept money and closer government ties not only appears to help to fulfill this, it is also a warning from verse 34 of efforts to join the church based on hypocrisy. Here, the government sets up a financial presence between the sea or the people and the beautiful Holy Mountain or the government of God so that it has economic leverage over the church.
On every level this tabernacle is being set up.
"He will come to his end and no one will help him". (Verse 45)

A political alliance which falls in the sixth plague is also described in Revelation 17: 16-17. It fails when the members of the alliance turn on the King of the North (the harlot of Revelation 17). It is amazing to see the level to which this prophecy is being repeatedly fulfilled. God is demonstrating through these minor fulfillments that the major fulfillment is near.
- End of War. After the war was declared to be over, the president was begging the allies it insulted for financial help.
- End of Coalition Government. On June 28, 2004 formal sovereign power was handed back to Iraq. Now, no one is fooled into thinking that the American occupation and control is over or that Iraq will see a dramatic drop in violence. Two days before, at a NATO meeting in Turkey they still refused to send troops to help. It only promised to train soldiers. So we have come to the first formal, if not practical end, and no one will help us.
- Other Pleas for Help. In February 2005, a visit to the European nations obtained pledges of support that total four million dollars for one year. France pledged one trainer. The war costs the United States five billion dollars each day. Truly, no one will help. This offer of help was more of an insult to make a point.
- End of Occupation. What will happen at this end? We will never leave Iraq or give up control.
- End of the World. This is the ultimate fulfillment. Just before this end, the European allies will turn against them according to Revelation 17. Therefore, at some point we should have some cooperation in dealing with the Middle East. The Vatican will probably have a strong hand in pushing for this cooperation.
At the end of time the governments of the world will cooperate to attack the righteous nation of God scattered in every country. They will form temporary alliances to do this. They will even authorize their own citizens to strike the righteous. However, mutiny and rumors of conspiracies will characterize these unions and their coalition will quickly collapse. According to Revelation 17 the European allies will vacate the deal within two weeks. They will attack each other.
The Victories of the King of the North. Below is a summary of the two falls. It also includes important comparisons from the repetition of the prophecy in Revelation 11.

In defeating these nations and the communists in 1991, the new king of the North takes back the regions conquered by the old king of the South during the French Revolution. Atheism and Palestine will be conquered by the new king of the north.
Persecution and The Second Coming.

Persecution. And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince who stands for the children of your people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time your people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
Resurrection. And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever. (Daniel 12: 1-3)
Convergence of Prophecies (Israel and Babylon the Great)
The next verse in Daniel 12: 1 predicts a great time of trouble because of this war in the Holy Land. Zechariah 12 predicts a war between Israel and her neighbors that is exacerbated by the actions of Israel. During this war, the Latter Rain falls. There is no direct connection between that prophecy and this except for certain facts. The conclusion is that spiritual and physical Israel get caught up as victims in a war between the king of the north and the king of the south.
- Babylon the Great in Palestine. A war that precedes the great time of trouble in Daniel 12: 1 is fought in the Holy Land. The alliance of Israel with America and the perpetual hatred by the Muslims is a recipe for disaster.
- Physical Israel Attacked. The nations that surround Israel attack her. This means that in this phase Jordan might join in. Verse 41 simply means that in the first phase America and the king of the south will not attack Jordan. The King of the south attacks physical Israel, but the king of the North will attack spiritual Israel.
- A Religious Solution. Babylon the Great tries to find a religious solution to the problem, because it is in great trouble as the war is ending. It is not clear if this religious solution occurs before, during or after the latter rain. However, idolatry will be forced on the world as Babylon the Great merges with the church to promote one religion.
- Spiritual Israel Attacked. Babylon the Great persecutes the church. Zechariah 12 indicates that the kings of the north and south will also persecute Israel.

Will a Temple be Rebuilt?
A popular futuristic interpretation, named "the Gap Theory", predicts the rise of the Antichrist in Israel in the last seven years on earth after the Communists (Russians and Chinese) start a war in the Middle East. He will sign a peace treaty with Israel and break it after 3½ years. The interpretation has these major elements.
- Seven Years. This time period is taken by breaking a prophecy of 490 years into two parts. The first 483 years is fulfilled at the time of Christ. The last seven years is fulfilled at the end of time after an unspecified gap of over 2000 years. We have discussed the absurd nature of this treatment of prophetic time and show how the entire 490 years were fulfilled in the past.
- The War in the Middle East. So far it is the United States that is conducting this war, not the Communists.
- Jewish Temple Rebuilt. This requires that the Muslim temple on the Dome of the Rock be destroyed first. While this might seem to be political suicide, it could happen. But it is not prophecied and it is irrelevant other than it might help to escalate a predicted war with the surrounding nations.
However a rebuilt Jewish temple with sacrifices to YHWH will not be allowed by God. In my experience God has been so precise and particular with His symbols that this sign cannot be allowed. After the designated time, He stopped the sacrifices in Israel so that although the nation does not accept Christ as the Messiah, they have technically been doing the right thing for 2000 years. The prophecy of Zechariah 12 says that they will recognize the Messiah. That means that they could not possibly go backwards to the sacrificial system. God Himself will put His city and Temple on Jerusalem after the third coming. - Sacrifices Restarted. It is illogical for God to restart animal sacrifices when the perfect sacrifice has been made.
- Antichrist and The Temple of Idolatry. Daniel 11: 45 and Zechariah 5 suggests that the Antichrist forces will be established in Israel and Iraq or its end time substitute (Babylon the Great). So while a new Jewish temple with sacrifices will not happen, a religion of idolatry will be established.
A false temple will be built in the Land of Shinar (Babylon) according to the prophecy of Zechariah 5. This false temple and religion matures in Revelation 13 and it is systematically destroyed in Revelation 16. This is a part of the ambitions of Satan to capture the throne of God. It is the first steps in preparation of the final battle of Armageddon.
But you said in your heart, "I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God, and I will sit on the mount of the assembly in the recesses of the north". (Isaiah 14: 13)
The symbols represent the Antichrist as being both in the land of Babylon and being in Israel. This means that Babylon the Great will be ruling in the church among the people of God. He will be on "the mount of the assembly" (Israel) and in "the recesses of the north" (Babylon).
Perhaps, after Israel accepts the Messiah and breaks ties with the United States, then the USA relies on Iraq as the seat of their military headquarters while the Papacy under the UN charter controls Jerusalem.

Spiritual Egypt. Under the command to "Prophesy Again", we must also see "Egypt" in terms of Revelation 11 and the reference to "Sodom and Egypt".
And their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city which mystically is called Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified. (Revelation 11: 8)
Jesus was crucified in Jerusalem. So this is saying that at the end of time Jerusalem will become the center of idolatry and immorality. We know why. The great whore and the king of the north has planted their temple of Idolatry there. If we do not see a physical structure that is the symbol of this rebellion, we will definitely see a global attempt to change the laws of God. At that time the king of the north and the king of the south will be one land of rebellion.

Why should we prophesy again? The answer is in Revelation 13. Because the beast was only wounded in the French Revolution. It would be healed and it would come back. Prophetic history would be repeated.

Symbols of the Papacy. Once again we see this papal power described in another way.
- King of the North. He is the successor to the Roman empire and the long time enemy of God from the north.
- Little Horn. Daniel 7 and 8. He is the little power with great political and religious influence.
- Abomination of Desolation. The abomination that is sent because of rejection of God. After the church apostatized and chose to rely on the power of the Roman emperor, it was given over to this destroying power.

The Antichrist was not to appear until there was an apostasy (a falling away). It was being restrained in the days of Paul by the Roman empire. But when the Roman empire moved to Constantinople it left the papacy in charge of the western kingdom.
- The Beast. Revelation 13. Introduces it as one of two beast powers that will be in control at the end. It would be the first beast to appear in the world. The last would be a new power.
- The Wounded Head. Revelation 13. Describes the loss of power in 1798 during the French Revolution.
- The Great Whore. Revelation 18 describes the prostitute controls the kings of the earth. This description is of a corrupting religious power that controls the world governments.
- Babylon the Great. Revelation 18. This final description focuses on the political power that is totally absorbed by the religious system.
- The Woman under the Ephah. This is the woman from Babylon who was subdued under a lead cover. She was under judgment. In the end she was released and enshrined in a temple in Babylon. (Zechariah 5).
"Winning the War on Terror".
Who will win the war on terror? From Daniel it is hard to determine if the King of the North or the King of the South wins. The pronouns are ambiguous.
On May 1, 2003 the president stood on the deck of the aircraft carrier Lincoln in a flight suit with the banner "Mission Accomplished" splashed overhead and announced that "Major combat operations are over".
Ever since this announcement of victory, Al-Qaeda, the former Iraqi military and foreign fighters have waged a type of guerilla war which has forced the western nations to escalate civil paranoia with harsh laws which limit personal freedom and increase government spying and intrusion on our personal affairs. The first suicide bombings in London on July 7, 2005 and the failed attempts on July 14 have convinced western nations to install more laws that limit freedom. Sadly, these laws are increasingly attempting to define what constitutes, "Extremism" and "spreading hatred". The end result is that no church will be able to express any beliefs that are critical about any other group. Sooner or later, I will not be able to say that the prophecies predict that an atmosphere like the inquisition will once again smear and terrorize the face of the earth. The war on terror will never end until God defeats all governments.
